Eurocopter EC135

The EC135 is a very popular twin-engine helicopter used for military, medical, and private purposes. This model, complements of RotorSim, comes in three variants, two with glass cockpits and one with steam gauges. Each model includes lots of liveries, and you can even download the paint kit to create your own! And, if you really want to up the realism of this model, you can check out the flight manual supplied by the creators.

Note that in the current version, there’s a small glitch in 2-D cockpit mode on some systems. By switching to 3-D cockpit mode (by pressing either Shift+9 or Shift+0), you can get back to the otherwise exceptional flight experience.

The X-Plane forum for younger users has changed its purpose. Here’s an update from the site’s administrator:

Hello all X-Plane users!

Lately I have been working very hard on a new forum, which, as you may know, was for the younger users. This is no longer the case. A friend and I had discussed many issues with the forum, and we decided to change the forum’s purpose. So today, I would like to share the site’s new purpose!

My site is now the X-Plane Social Event Community. It will feature official voting, technical support, loads of interviews, social reviews and discussions, news, and more!

So as time goes on, more and more interviews will be posted. The x737 team, the SSG team, Peter’s Aircraft, and Javier Rollon (creator of the CRJ200) have all interviewed thus far, and more is being written all the time!

So I encourage all readers to come and check it out. The community is new, so everyone is more than welcome to come along and register. It would be great to see the user list expand over time!

Antonov An-2

This single-engine biplane is slow and fun to fly. Designed in 1946 in the USSR, and produced consistently for 45 years afterward, it’s a big piece of aviation history. Perhaps most interestingly, the aircraft has no stall speed. Like many modern VTOL/STOL aircraft, it can even fly backward! With the engine off, the aircraft will descend at about the same rate as a parachute until it reaches the ground.
