X-Plane 9

This is X-Plane version 9 on DVD for Mac OS, Windows, and Linux platforms. It ships on six dual-layer DVDs which hold all the scenery from latitudes from 74 degrees north to 60 degrees south.

This purchase includes free Internet updates for the entire X-Plane 9.xx run--that is, you'll recieve version 9.00, version 9.22, 9.30, etc. all the way up to 9.99 if it exists.

Note: Some stores sell special distributions of X-Plane that do not have the Mac, Windows, and Linux versions all on the same discs. They may also be selling only an older version as well. In order to ensure that you get the latest version of the software for all three operating systems, you should only buy here at X-Plane.com. This is the only place where you can get X-Plane directly from its creators, with the most complete installer and the latest version of the sim.

Get the perfect hardware

X-Plane works with a countless number of joysticks and hardware. However, if you would like help selecting the perfect hardware guaranteed to work with X-Plane, here are our suggestions.

On their X-Plane Products page, Digital Edge sells joysticks, yokes, throttles, and pedals, all of which have been selected for their high quality and known compatibility with X-Plane.

Macintosh computers

Austin Meyer, the author of X-Plane, does all of his development work for X-Plane on Macs, and he recommends them. The latest iMacs and Mac Pros from Apple typically run X-Plane perfectly.

Windows computers and joysticks

Digital Edge is a company run by Laminar Research employees that sells Windows computers and accessories that are guaranteed to work with X-Plane out of the box. If you are not sure which joysticks to get, which computer to buy, and so on, we recommend going to Digital Edge for that hardware. Everything you get there will have been selected by Laminar Research employees to work perfectly with X-Plane.

To learn more about what each of these keys entails, check out the X-Plane Pro site or see Chapter 1 of the X-Plane manual.

To use the X-Plane Pro USB keys (applicable to a level 2, 3, and 4 simulator), users will need to download and install the HASP USB key driver.

Level 2 USB key for EFIS-App and commercial, FAA-certifiable X-Plane ($500.00)

This key is needed to run EFIS-App. Plug one of these keys into each computer running EFIS-App or X-Plane in the X-Plane network to remove the EFIS-App demo limitations.

Additionally, this key unlocks X-Plane's commercial use, its frame rate check, and its joystick check capabilities. Plug one of these keys into each computer running X-Plane in the X-Plane network to have the software checks needed to build an FAA-certifiable or commercial-use X-Plane simulator.

Note that if you use any USB keys, then each computer on your X-Plane network must have the same USB key.

Level 3 USB key for all of the above plus G430 and G1000 support ($1000.00)

This key does everything that the Level 2 key does, but it also supports the hardware Garmin G430 and G1000 GPS units. Additionally, it does cylindrical and spherical projection.

Please note that if you use any USB keys, then each computer on your X-Plane network must have the same USB key.

Get custom aircraft files for X-Plane

Laminar Research offers the capability to custom-create real aircraft for X-Plane on a contract basis. This work can duplicate an owner's airplane, down to the paint, tail number, avionics and instrument panel, including the proper placement of controls and switches. This process includes custom one-off engineering and graphics design work. Historically, we have even certified a few of these aircraft for use with the FAA-certified version of X-Plane. As you can imagine, this work is priced accordingly and is not inexpensive. Typical costs range from $3,500 to $10,000 per file.

In the past, these custom planes have been created for the US government, various well-known aircraft manufacturers, and private aircraft owners. The aircraft created range from Cessna Citations and Piaggio Avantis, to Beechcraft Barons, to Piper Saratogas.
