We will periodically be releasing free updates to the X-Plane Mobile line of applications for the iPhone and iPod Touch. These updates include things like frame rate improvements, bug fixes (though the nature of the platform makes only a small number of these necessary), and flight model improvements. They also include completely new features, like new cockpits, EFIS models, flight regions, and aircraft.
Of course, users don't have to download these, but it is recommended that they do so.
To find out what all is in the latest update, see the Updates to X-Plane Mobile page on the X-Plane Wiki.
The easiest way to update the mobile X-Plane applications is to go to the App Store (found on the device's "home page") and tap Updates down at the bottom of the screen. There, simply select Update All (as marked in the image below). The device will prompt for the username and password which were used to purchase the applications, then it will automatically download the updates.
