Weyauwega-Fremont High School in Weyauwega, Wisconsin is the winner of the fourth GAMA/Build A Plane Aviation Design Challenge! Four students, one teacher, and one chaperone will travel to Glasair Aviation in Arlington, Washington, to build a Glasair Sportsman as their prize this summer.
76 schools across the U.S. participated in the 2016 Aviation Design Challenge. Students learned the basics of aerospace engineering, and then used X-Plane to modify and test a virtual aircraft. Scores were based on the payload, the length of the flight, and the amount of fuel burned, while judges also evaluated a summary of modifications each team made to the aircraft, a checklist of steps involved in the demonstration flight, and three videos submitted throughout the competition.
