October 2015 – It’s alive! Android App, 10.40 update, Control Pad App Released

Hello there!

The latest version of X-Plane 10 is out on mobile devices & desktop! We’ve been hard at work and have something new for everyone.

  • Android users can now get X-Plane 10 Mobile for free on the Google Play Store. It includes all the same great features as the iOS version, so you can take X-Plane with you anywhere.
  • iPhone and iPad users can get the latest X-Plane 10 Mobile update which includes new liveries.
  • Desktop users can also get X-Plane 10.40 which includes extended visibility, digital download, and scenery updates to almost 500 airports. Detailed information is listed on our release notes page.
  • For desktop users who also have an iPhone or iPad, Control Pad is our newest app now available for free in the Apple App Store. Control Pad allows you to control X-Plane 10.40 dynamically without pausing or interrupting flight. You can change weather, position, and more with the app, or even use it as a portable instructor’s station to throw emergency situations into the mix.
  • And finally, Austin Meyer continues the good fight against patent trolls with this sneak peek at his new documentary.

Tips and Tricks

X-Plane 10 Mobile is now out on Android, but we certainly haven’t forgotten about our iOS users! Version 10.1.1 is out now for all mobile devices and adds up to four new liveries for select aircraft.

Aircraft with new liveries include:

  • Cessna 172SP
  • Bombardier CRJ200
  • Airbus A320
  • Boeing 777-200ER
  • Sikorsky S-76

Livery options are only available in Freeflight and are indicated with arrows above or below the aircraft. Simply swipe up or down on the screen to chose a new look for your aircraft. You can also change liveries by selecting the “Modify Flight” option from within the Freeflight pause screen.

There was a lot of information about X-Plane 10 Mobile in this edition, but users of the desktop sim still have one benefit mobile can’t touch: they’re the only ones who can add freeware to truly customize their experience!

This month you can get your hands on a free copy of an A-10 Thunderbolt II, aka “Warthog,” from X-Plane.org. The Warthog is an American twin-engine, straight wing jet aircraft designed solely for close air support, including attacking tanks, armored vehicles, and other ground targets. This freeware version designed by Fabrice Kauffmann includes ordnance, a 3D cockpit, an animated pilot and 8 liveries.Ilyushin freeware

A Note from Austin

Yesterday Greg Alia, a police officer and long-time friend of mine, was killed in the line of duty.

For nothing.

This leaves his wife with no husband, and 6-month-old son with no father. It’s easier not to mention these things, but I’m not going to just pretend it never happened. This is the one thing that can never be un-done, but if anyone could give here on their GoFundMe page to help out his surviving wife and son, you will be helping to remove one tiny bit of terror from this unspeakable situation.
