X-Plane 11 on Ubuntu Linux 26.04 and newer
X-Plane 11 was built for older Linux distributions (Ubuntu 14.04, Ubuntu 16.04) and has dependencies that are not installed by default on modern Ubuntu 26.04 LTS (this might apply to other new Linux distributions as well). With the default installation of Ubuntu 26.04 you may need to manually install the following packages in order to run X-Plane 11 Installer and X-Plane 11:
- libglu1-mesa
- libgtk2.0-0t64 (for the required libgdk-x11-2.0.so.0 library)
sudo apt install libgtk2.0-0t64 libglu1-mesa
Don’t forget apt-file command is your friend in case of any missing libraries on Ubuntu (it needs to be installed first):
sudo apt install apt-file
sudo apt-file update
and then to find the package that provides the missing library:
apt-file search libgdk-x11-2.0.so.0
Please note, X-Plane 11 on newer Linux distributions (including Ubuntu 26.04) may require additional workarounds to run, for example:
